to the home page for the sailboat Gato Loco. Gato Loco is a Seawind 1000 33 foot
catamaran sailboat
owned by a group of friends with our recreational homes
and Gato Loco’s homeport in Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) Mexico. The partners
are Lowell & Frankie McCulley, Dave & Ellen Redden, Rick Quant
and Bill Hensler. We had been adventuring south in the Sea of Cortez for
years in smaller boats and in 2002 we decided to raise our sights on destinations
further south. With Gato Loco, we have conquered Baja by exploring the
entire Baja coast Pacific to Puerto Penasco in the Sea of Cortez. The Pacific

The name Gato Loco means "crazy cat" in Spanish and fits well with the personality of the partners. The name has been an excellent choice and always brings a smile to the local Mexicans when they hear it.
Gato Loco’s adventure started in Long Beach where she arrived from Sydney Australia. Partners had a great time outfitting her for the first big cruise while she sat in Ensenada Mexico May through October 2002. At the end of October 2002 we sailed from San Diego to Cabo in a cruiser rally called the “Baja Haha”, placing in second place in the multi-hull division. That cruise officially started our Baja cruising adventures.
