Provisioning done, Just add wind

The Gato Loco cruise begins today.

Weather looks good for our departure

except for the wind. We’re heading for Puerto Lobos on our first day out and it looks like the winds will be light and may be on our nose. Weather forecasts haven’t’ been correct all week and we hope we get SW winds that have been with us the past two days..

5 AM and I hear Jeffrey’s making coffee. No light to the east yet but by the time we have everything ready there’s a glow beginning. The departure has a new challenge this year. They are dredging the harbor and we have 24” plastic pipes across the departure channel. Luckily Bill has been dealing with this for months and knows where they have the pipes submerged allowing us to pass over it with 6’ to spare. We’re free and the cruise is now underway.

Our crew south is Lynnie, Jeffrey, Bill and missing from the pic me (Lowell).

Below the newly dredged exit channel.

Clearing Penasco we find the typical early morning easterly breeze. That’s good…

Update:: Checking emails about an hour out of Penasco Bill found out his mother is in the hospital. After a phone call we decided to return to Penasco and drop Bill off. Wishing Bill and his Mother the best.

IMG_6871Second departure at 7:30, 2 hours later than planned but no worries. Puerto Lobos has a light house and a full moon will rise at 5 PM. We’re just happy we could get Bill to shore quickly so he can stay in touch with the situation…

We’re now 3 and hoping Bill can rejoin the cruise..

Until the next update

    Jeffrey and Lynne,

As usual it looks as if you are having a great time. Jeffrey, you sort of look like Stevie Wonder with those sunglasses.

Smooth sailing and good winds to carry you forward and most important, no bugs! Don’t lose too many flip flops Lynn, how do you do it??? I’m sure we are all missing out on the great food to be had and the laughter. IF I had the pups I would send daily pics Jeff and Lynn and since I don’t, this will have to suffice as I’m sure they are both missing you. ??. Love you both and behave! Sister Ann (And no I’m not a real nun, if I was, I’d have to remind these 2 that they’ll be in hell till it freezes over!)

Hope you have a great trip! So very sorry to hear about Bill’s mom. Luckily, you were still so close. Have fun (like you need to be told!)
