Gato Loco by Land in Guerrero Negro
The Gato Loco Land Cruise Wednesday April 30 is a red flag high wind day in Arizona and it’s time for us to drive from Phoenix to the Guadalupe wine valley between the Mexican border town of Tecate and sea side Ensenada. We pulled onto the freeway (pulled anchor) at 10 AM. We soon find that due to the wind we didn’t leave Phx early enough. As we reach the mountains 60 miles east of San Diego cars are pulling over and we drive by a pickup stopped and looking at the wrecage of their cabover camper that was blown off by the wind. Gato Loco crossed the Sea of Cortez yesterday with very little wind and we crossed the desert with more than we needed.
. Thursday morning our first stop is the Cetto winery just a couple miles from the RV park. Cetto is probably the largest in the area with beautiful vineyards on the hillsides and winery operation in the valley. We stopped by their tasting and dinning area at the winery & purchased some for our cruise next week. . . . .
. <Cetto> . . . . Thursday evening… We’re parked at Malarrimo Restaurant & RV park in Guerrero Negro. It’s been a long day and we’re exhausted from the over 600km drive on narrow & sometimes white knuckle driving. Traffic was pretty light thank goodness.
South of Ensenada there’s lots of surf covered beaches. The desert landscape changed dramatically as we moved over mountain pass after mountain pass. One of the biggest annoyances is the speed bumps (Topes) and their little sisters (little topes) that warn you of the big ones. They can shake your teeth out. The weather has been cool since arriving in Mexico yesterday.. . It’s late and I would like to write more but I need some sleep. Hope to make the Loreto area tomorrow. .The Gato Loco Land Crew

The drive on hw 94 to Tecate is a very interesting with huge trees on curie mountain roads. Tecate (where the beer is brewed) sets in a valley with neighborhoods flowing up the hillsides. The drive on to Guadalupe is in mountains with 4 passes before we drop into Guadalupe valley covered with vineyards. Our overnight stop is at Rancho Sordo Mudo. This is a school that has built a small RV park to raise money for the school. Overnight charges what ever you want to donate and we were the only RV in the park.
