Bay of LA to Isla Tiburon (April 15)
We sailed away from Bay of LA around 2 PM Monday opting to find a new anchorage down the <<Isla Ventana pictured right is just north of the Bay of LA. We motored by on our way in but bugs kept us from stopping and exploring more. Maybe on the way north. Below, Two other cruising sailboats are anchored near Guilmero’s ramp and we’re all using the floating dock at the same time with a little balance work. It’s a little tipsy and could send someone in for a swim. Heading south the wind has shifted today to the SW putting our first option of Isla Partida directly into the wind. Second option, Ensenada el Pescador 12km down the coast with a bay offering protection from the SW winds. After pointing tight to get out of Bay of LA we were able to relax a little after tacking to port and sailing south in flats seas in a 12kt breeze. Time to resume our hearts game. Cards fall my way:) The Pescador bay is shallow with an island in the north side that we considered anchoring behind but the cliffs on the south shore caught our attention and lured us in. Great anchorage with red cliffs and coarse sand beach. Wave erosion has produce towering monument rock formations. Water even looks warm BUT when I jumped in it took my breath away (probably mid 60s). Dave & Bill opted not to join me. Hiking up the cliffs . . Sunset with the bay shoreline and distant Baja mountains caught our attention yet again. . . . Tuesday Morning (tax day), Dave sounds the fly alarm at 7AM. No problem with bugs at sunset and evening but they have found us this morning so we pulled anchor with glassy water and point Gato Loco east toward Isla Tiburon while we have breakfast. Sails up at 8:30. Isla Partida is directly in line with our heading and the plan is to sail in and check out the anchorages for future reference. . Isla Partida looking SE. Anchorage spot is just to the right for the saddle between headlands. . . Our leg today to Isla Tiburon only 40km to the east. This is the passage slower boats take to island hop across the Sea. Partida is 18kms off Baja an easy sail. About half way between Partida and Tiburon Bill spotted our whales. It was a pod of at least 4 and they seemed to be hanging near the surface. One was a juvenile noticeably smaller the the adults. Winds building all afternoon and Looks like we’ll make the anchorage by 4 in time to do some exploring.. Lowell for the Gato Loco Crew. . .
