Seawind Rally, Carmen North Shores
Monday, May 6th, Happy Hour in Puerta Ballandra
There’s now 7 boats with us on the Rally, MoonDrifter, Gato Loco, Peir a Mer, Bon Temps, Dream Catcher, Out of Here & Mariah make up the Rally fleet. The 60’ trawler “Out of Here”, our Rally Mothership, is hosting tonight’s sunset happy hour. It’s a beautiful cool clear evening. We’ve prepared some of Jeffrey’s grouper which was soon gone with lots of complements. “Out of Here” is new to Rob and Char, just bring her north from Puerto Vallarta where they recently purchased her. Very interesting to tour their 60’ boat, expecially the Man Cave engine room.
Pam and Lance on Bon Temps and John & Regina on Dream Catcher (left)
Wheel house above with beautiful mahogany wood everywhere.
Left, Dinghy pile on the steer of “Out Of Here” as we head back to Gato Loco for some more serious BITCHIN Rummy. We managed to score enough munchies to call it dinner.
Very nice first day on the water and there’s definitely lots of Bitchin during cards on Gato Loco.
Tuesday, May 7th
Things have settling in with the new crew. Last night we had a fun evening and a nice breeze from the east allowing everybody to get a good nights sleep. Most for the 18 boats anchored with us had not stirred as we headed out of the anchorage. Weather report is for light winds from the NE. That means our plans to anchor tonight at Punta Colorado again on Isla Carmen won’t work since it’s open to the NE. The new plan, Sail east across Carmen’s north shore and down to Bahia Salinas where we’ve anchored many times before near the salt mine.
Entering Salinas we found a huge pod of dolphin that were feeding and seemed to be hanging in one spot. We sailed in circles with them for 30 minutes taking photos and more GoPro underwater videos. Here are 3 of Frankie’s photos. The flying dolphin is pretty incredible. This dolphin is still 10’ in the air on his way down. He must of jumped 20’ in the air.
After the dolphin show we sailed back out of the bay to escort the fleet in.
Pied a Mer & Bon Temps cross bows in the distance.
Moon Drifter with Kurt, Ralph and Helen on board are the first to enter the bay. Good winds out of the NE allowed us to sail the east side of Carmen and into the Bay to our anchorage.
Mood Drifter waves bye bye as we let them take our air 🙂
Pied a Mer gets their first view of Salinas as we sail in together. Interesting, their Ray Marine charts showed some islands in the bay that don’t exist. They sailed over where the islands should to be to convince Eric they were truly not there. Charts always seem to have some glitches.
Of coarse we had to stop by the wreck for some snorkeling. I put the GoPro in the water finding huge schools of reef fish just below me. More video that I will post when we’re back in Phoenix.
Blue Hawaiian’s on Gato Loco tonight complements of Jeffrey and Lynnie. We entertained the fleet with underwater video’s of our dolphins and reef fish.
We certainly missed Steve & Pam tonight. No musicians on the rally to entertain us. Without your presence we had only Ipod tunes to sooth our souls. We need you guys back.!
Fishing report… Zilch, We hoped to hook up that 3’ yellowtail that got off the hook last season on the NE corner of Carmen. No luck today.
Nice dinner and guess what…. Bitchin rummy continues.
Until the next Update.
Wow, great dolphin shots! Glad you ate the grouper – hope you enjoyed. Only a few more days left on your first legs – happy sailing!
Hi All,
Looks like good times….am counting down the days….single digits now…..YAY!
Looks like everyone is having a great time. Jane and I are packed and ready to head to Guaymas at 4:30am tomorrow and then to Loreto on Sunday. Can’t wait to get this adventure started.
Lowell, We would rather be there without music, then here with Pam and I sitting on Barramundi in our slip playing sad songs on my guitar while reading your blog!!! We are disappointed that we didn’t make it this year but we are working hard to make it next year. We will be at the Catalina rally and hope you guys can make it there. Well, back to drowning my sorrows in margaritas! Have a blast and say hi to all…

Lowell and crew! The 5th Annual will definitely go down in the archives as a winner! Perfect weather, great food and incredible camaraderie! Thanks to you and the grand poobah for organizing yet another fantastic rally. The crew of Ottahere had a relaxing cruise back to La Paz via an overnight at Isla San Francisco. Cheers, Kurt
