Penasco to Puerto Lobos
A quick catch up on our Cholla departure.
After hiring the cleaning lady (left) to finish detail cleaning we headed back to Cholla for the annual OBSC community BASH which has been going on for over 25 years. As you can see people don’t have any fun in Cholla Bay. Cheers Cholla.!!
Actually we had to go visit Christina at El Capitan for a farewell margarita and a great lunch before going to the Bash.
Jeffery and Lynnie picked me up at our Cholla house around 6:30 and I only wish I would have taken a picture. We looked like the Beverly Hillbillies with stuff hanging our every opening on their Jeep.
Heading for Lobos..
Winds were forecasted to be on our nose heading SSE to Lobos. Thankfully, winds clocked from east to SW mid morning at 7kts allowing us to raise sails that we had doused about an hour earlier. Hoping it builds as the day progresses. I’m happy to report the new main halyard upgrade is working great. The main sail now runs up smoothly and drops with a wooosh into the new sail lazyjack pocket that Bill worked with Juan, our new Penasco canvas, guy to build an improved version.
10 AM.. Jeffery caught our first fish which will be our afternoon sushi snack.
Yum.. Sushi for and afternoon snack. Craig prefers his fish cooked, but being a good sport, cheered us on.
The afternoon winds were somewhat cooperative out of the south but finally ended on our nose forcing us to drop sails and motor the last hour into the south bay.
Arriving in the south Lobos bay the fishing boats were returning from their days work and proudly showed us what they had caught. Landing on the beach, Jeffery’s fishing guide friend, Tom Alber picked us and took us to his turquoise house on the south bay to pick us some fish for dinner. 8 to 10 guys at his house had been fishing and caught in a ton of fish so we could have what ever we wanted. The choice… Sardinero (leopard grouper). As you can see below it’s a cool fishing camp.
They were working on a big fire for dinner.. Jeffery & Tom above. I’ve learned a new cooking technique cooking with skin and scales still on the fish then cooked on the grill scales down, steamed until the fish flakes right from the skin. Perfect technique for our Aussie grill. Dinner another big YUM.
A cool breeze out or the south made for good sleeping… My early rising crew was up at 5 AM making for an early departure to Puerto Refugio.
Until the next Update.
