Baja 2010 Leg 7, Where are they????

Lowell here… For those that are wondering where the Gato Loco Leg 7 Crew might be..? Just to set everybody’s mind at ease.. Their planned route north has no easy internet access. They will need to layover in Bahia San Francisquito, Bahia De Los Angeles or Willard Bay.  There is no cellular internet available and they will need to rely on open wireless in a few beach homes or the internet cafe in Bay of LA. The last time I spoke with Bill, he did not plan on going into Bay of LA so we might not hear from them until late in the week or as they arrive in Penasco. They should be having fun with the blog as they head north for us to read when they can send something. If anyone is blessed to have  contact with them please post a comment with their status.. We’ve sailed this area many times and Bill knows it very well… All is well I’m sure…

SSSOOOooo this is a filler update. Time for the song and dance.. Craig on Leg 1 wrote this verse.

“Riding the waves to Loreto”

We’re riding the waves to Loreto.
The wind blowing what’s left of our hair.
We’re sailing with eyes mas abajo.
I hope we’ll be seeing you there.
We’ll soon be in Puerto Escondido,
With sailors from far and from near,
We’ll swap tales and swat at Mosquitos,
then we’ll laugh and we’ll drown in our beer.
Hope the wind will be fair in Loreto,
We’ll bask in the dawn’s early light.
Then just like sombrero’d bandidos,
We’ll be off like thieves in the night.

We’ll let the Pilot Whales do the dance.

Hey Lowell,
I’ve been following your posts on the highly prized culinary delicacy, Bonito, and thought you should see what we caught about 50 yards off your house in Cholla Bay.
Chris Pfitzer is the proud marksman (shooting into the blind murk- about 12 feet in 8 feet of visibility) of a 27.5 pound ROOSTERFISH!  I understand these fish are great sport for line fishermen, but spear and release is not really within our group ethic.  So, we ended the long dive with a meal of this beast, along with many limes (not enough), tequila, and cervezas.

Here’s hoping Leg 7 is catching lots of fish or at least getting some great fish stories to improve our season fishing luck.

I have many fond memories of this leg going south. That was about 8 weeks already! Craig, nice lyrics. This is the first time I’ve read them.

Hello to Lowell, Frankie and Neely – good times.

Thanks for the up-date Lowell, I love the picture of you and the Roosterfish. Hi to Frankie and Neely. Great verse from Craig.

Alright, alright…Carl, stop rubbing it in that you got that roosterfish right in front of the houses while we struggled and struggled for our little trigger and parrotfish (and our endless bonito) for a whole week on our leg 5! Geez! Hope the boys of leg 7 are having a blast…knowing that group, they are! Can’t wait to hear the updates when they come…see you boys at the concert on Saturday! Be safe… 🙂

For Doug Stover on Leg 7,
Don Douglio, I found the blog and I am tracking your movements. If you have trouble, my friend and shipmate John C Harvey is now Admiral of the Fleet Forces Command, this includes the Atlantic Fleet… he can come to your rescue! But I’m sure your in good hands. Have a great trip. Don Julio

    Hi All,

That was sooo awesome! To listen to Neeley little whimpers in the background along with hearing Frankie’s voice was fun too! Thanks for a great video.

    Love,
    Jill

How cool was the whale video. Thanks for sharing. I guess we could go to Cholla and see a whale too. FUN!!! Thanks for sharing this, Lowell!! Tell Frankie and Neeley hi and have a fun summer in MO. You could have a bit different weather than last year. 🙂

Goto Loco Where are You. It’s like finding Waldo in a big picture. Be Safe and I hope you are catching great fish and wind to enjoy the sail.

Frankie, Neely & I are back in Cholla waiting Gato Loco’s arrival. Nice 15kt wind blowing and it’s forecasted through Saturday. They should have an exciting sail into Penasco. Maybe they will arrive to Willard Bay today and would be able to send out some updates.. We will see how resourceful they are. The temp is awesome for their final days on the Baja 2010 cruise..

Lowell thanks for the update on the weather. I’m sure that the sail will be awesome and they will be excitted to see every-one and I think it is wonderful that you and the owners of Goto Loco gave Doug this opportunity to be on the boat. He is such a lover of the water. I did not want him to miss this great experience, it’s unlike the submarine that he saw nothing of the water, but he was and is a great sailor. Can’t wait to see you all. Dougie didn’t think I was coming but I can’t stand not to be there for one more excursion, it’s fun greeting them when they come ashore. Yes, even after 36 years, I can’t wait. See you all tomorrow. Ole Gillie chill the glasses for a shot.

We woke up to 25kt winds and big seas in Cholla this morning. This would force a layover day if they have these conditions. I checked Baja weather and winds are much lighter there. I was hoping they were in Willard Bay last night and could send updates but nothing heard. If the winds lay down tomorrow they should be able to cross from where every they overnighted so I still expect they can make it in Saturday evening assuming seas and winds back down.
