San Juanico – Puerto Escondido & Loreto Fest
Friday April 30
Cooler with Pacific spill-over night time westernly breeze all night. Still blowing 8 as we launch the dink to take Neely ashore and add our cruiser tree offering for Leg 1.
Arriving on shore we were met by Babe and her master from Taos NM camping on the beach.

Early morning ceremony at the cruiser tree. Note, everybody has their jackets on. Wind chop is a factor with 5 of us in the dink heading back to the boat. Hook up at 8:30 and we sail with the wind at our backs out of San Juanico. Looks to be a good day of sailing into Puerto Escondido and Loreto Fest.
.
10:30.. A pad of dolphins pass by and crew hardly moves so I guess dolphins have become old hats…
12:00.. Winds clock to the SW as we sail south of Isla Coronado into the bay between Loreto and Isla Carmen. Internet service now and everybody makes phone calls to get in touch with family. Craig & John begin to realize the cruise is coming to an end and their lower lips hang… đ
3:30.. Final push to make the entrance to Puerto Escondido and winds pipe up to 14 and swing making us pinch hard to make the point. Rounding the corner is always interesting with boats anchored and moored everywhere.. Big contrast from sailing in the northern Sea where we see few boats..
Loreto Fest…
Much bigger turn-out for the festival this year with an estimated 170 boats attending.
..
Ralph & Helen (Moondrifter) learning to joggle while festival folks socialize and listen to live music.
..
Leg 1 crew pose for one last group photo. Neely and Craig have really bonded.
Our address was buoy 76 deep in the bay for our two nights in the harbor. Thanks to Victor for loaning us a 10 hp outboard this season. The dink planes and flies with Frankie, Neely & I in to and makes good time with the 5 of us for the 3/4 mile ride to the dinghy dock. Loreto Fest was a great time as usual.
.
Sunday May 2…
The Seawind Rally starts today. Lots of Seawinds and other catamaran friends have attended the festival and will be join us sailing back to Santa Rosalia. It will be BIG FUN.
Craig and John left the dock early this morning to fly back to Puerto Penasco on a small 13 seater plane. That will be the final leg of their of their cruise with nice aerial views of the Sea. They were a great crew and we hope they come sail with us again sometime soon.

Happy sailing with all your buddies! Should make for some amazing shots.. hope the wind is good!
The two day trip home was easy. However, I am suffering from culture shock from being suddenly plunked back into the midwest after 1.5 weeks of cruising El Mar de Cortes with 3 new friends and 1 old friend. I really enjoyed the trip and meeting you three. Thanks again.
Have a safe voyage and fair winds.
p.s. I will be practicing my game of Hearts before I see you again!
