Leg 8 – Getting to Gato Loco & then some

By Lowell | June 3, 2009 | Category Baja 09

Spread the love

We arrived at Puerto Penasco and met up with Brian and Heather at JJ’s. We then decided to take the 8 hour overnight bus to San Carlos instead of waiting till the next day…I yi yi! This picture sums up our first day in Mexico – exhausted. Thanks so much Brian and Heather for all of your hospitality!DSCN0930

The muy paquito cab ride from the bus depot to the

marina, that’s Shelby in green at the bottom.

Our group portrait in the luxurious station wagon cab to the market, almost everyone had a seat this time!

The first lil’ fishy Danny caught…This guy was the same size as the cute pink lure, wooohooo!

Holy mackeral! This guy and his 4 siblings were dinner for 2 nights – cajun style and excellent fish tacos, courtesy of the mackeral family…mmmm mmm! Thanks fellas!

We saw hundreds of porpoises, or as Smee Shelby likes to call them porpi or porposi – plural for porpoise. Captain Bill Hook likes to call them “porpoise with a purpose”…we’ve got some real freaks on this leg!

Canada, eh? Mom, we saw your people! Wish you were here!

Sunsets-R-us.

Casey and Shelby have seen and heard it all…pirates trying to hop on ship during the middle of the night, whale sonar, and the elusive giant squid!

Captain Bill had to break the harsh news, I guess the refrigerator sounds a lot like pirates in the middle of the night. Too bad they didn’t find out until the morning, they locked their quarters and slept with butcher knives and pepper spray…

Woohooooo!

Crossing the Rio Grande upon our return from Carnage Island, argghhhh! Everything in the Sea of Cortez comes here to die…

Mako shark – deceased

Puffer fish (plural) – deceased

Porpoise (singular) – deceased

Seagull – deceased

Big Squid – deceased

Fin Whale – deceased

Bottle ‘O Rum – deceased

Yo ho yo ho…
