Cruisin to Loreto Fest

Loreto for supplies then destination Isla Carmen north shore, May 2 (Wed)

Dam I wish this boat would stop rolling.. Our anchorage at Isla Coronado was plagued with north swells and a light breeze from the SW keeping swells to our beam. Bounce..Bounce.. Finally about 4 AM things settled down. Plans today are to cruise 10 miles south to Loreto for supplies then head for the north shore of Isla Carmen the large island off Loreto. Another sunny day in the low 80s with a wind forecast of light & Variable. (9:30) off to Loreto after Frankie finishes her exercises on the beach.

Walking into Loreto, after anchoring 40 meters off shore, Frankie & I comment how much we like this community. It’s extremely clean and filled with friendly people. Our stop is not long enough for Frankie, she surely wishes she had some of her Penasco shopping friends with her so she could over-rule our short stop.

(1:00) Tequila, ice & cookies takes care of our supply needs. Lunch on the boat with the Loreto malecon backdrop before we point Gato Loco NE towards Carmen’s north shore. Winds… I can’t believe it are now 9 out of the NE. We haven’t seen it from that direction. May cause us to change our anchorage plans and for sure we will have to motor the first leg.

Winds on our nose as we cruise the north shore. IMG 4829a Will it create swells in the north anchorages? After last night we want a calm night. Puerto del la Lancha, a large open north shore bay, has 2 boats setting pretty calm. We head further east on finding Vee Cove empty and better protection from the prevailing swells. We decide to pull in and assess the conditions. Last year we had a great stay here. Good snorkeling and fishing. Winds are backing down so condition should improve. We’re staying! I’m in the water and see lots of potential dinner swimming below. No luck with the fishing pole. I think we need a new lure, at least that’s my excuse!

Soon after we set the hook a little 18′ dory yawl (two masts) sailboat ghosts into the anchorage. They’re going to camp on the sand beach.

Beautiful evening and we listen to Al McCoy call the Suns elimination of the Lakers. No, It’s a wonderful evening!

Very calm night, totally flat, very damp, cool and east anchorage wall to keep the sun away until 8:00 AM. Perfect!

(8:00) Thursday May 3rd, Heading into Loreto Fest today….

DSC 0590 Crew up and ready to hike the area. Early morning colors on the anchorage walls and water are so inspiring I have to get the camera up on the mesa above the anchorage. The hike, a cool- down swim, anchor up and off to Carmen’s east shore mid morning. Local and sports fishing boat working as we round the NE corner of the island.

(3:00) Heading into Loreto Fest in Puerta Escondido probably until Sunday or Monday morning. Last year there was no cell service so there may not be any Updates from us until we head out on Monday. Will do what we can to get one out.
