Leg 1, day 5
Ahoy!
Leg 1, day 5, April 15
Woke this morning to swirling winds and fog climbing over some of the peaks behind Bay of L. A. After a run to the local Pemex station for fuel we decided to set sail for our next destination Isla Salsipuedes. Fifteen minutes out the west winds returned, blowing 25knts and we wondered if it was going to be another day like yesterday.. Todays sail turned out to be a much easier downwind leg. The main sail went up, we put on some Beach Boys music and surfed the waves most of the way to the island, sometimes reaching speeds of 12.7 knts. Yeah Baby!
After yesterday, this is one happy crew. All this time out sailing and we haven’t seen another boat. I can’t understand why more sailboat aren’t cruising this area. It’s pristine and beautiful with kind and generous locals. The winds backed off towards the end of our sail so Clyde takes in a little reading.
Time to stretch the legs and get a better look at our surroundings. The hike took us to a good vantage point overlooking our anchorage and the rest of the island. As we reached the summit one lone sailboat caught our attention moving east to west. It arrived at our anchorage shortly before sunset. So much for seclusion! Just before climbing into bed we all took in the night sky. Stars! Stars! Stars! Our next stop takes us 17mi. south to Bahia San Francisquito.
Until the next Update… The GatoLoco Crew
