Rally Days
Monday May 6th
Moonday May 6th
You got to love a parade. Today the Rally fleet heads out to our first anchorage. We all gather near the harbor exit and raise our main sails and then motor sail out of the harbor with a drone capturing the parade streaming out of the Harbor. Our destination today is Isla Monserrate. The passage starts out with light wind on our nose but as we clock to the island we’re able to sail with motors off. Beautiful afternoon and a huge pod of dolphins swim by (see the video). Winds build in the afternoon from the north and spoil our beach plans with surf a little high for safe dinghy landings. Plans change a we meet on the large charter boat for happy hour and retire back to Gato Loco for dinner and Five Crowns cards. Mother nature throughs us another curve. (see the video)
Tuesday May 7th
Winds lightened through the night for good sleeping. We’re having a bit of a gnat bug problem. The Rally plans changed this morning and we’re going south to Agua Verde. Arriving we find room in the south bay in shallow water with a great beach for our dinner plans. We’re 7 boats now and we squeeze them all into the anchorage. 1 PM Chris organized a hike to Painted Cave which turns into a 3 hour hike (see the video). Tonight it’s dinner on the beach, games and lots of fellowship with the whole Rally crew (see the video).
Wednesday May 8th
The anchorage is so nice the Rally decided to stay another night. It’s a slight problem for us as we have a crew change tomorrow in Loreto 6 hours north and it means we’ll have to get up at sunrise to arrive in Loreto in time. The day starts with the traditional French Toast breakfast on MoonDrifter hosted by Bill, Alli and Cori. Mid-day a hike into the fishing village for refreshments and a few supplies. Ague Verde has a fishing co-op that organizes fishing for sustainability. After some efforts for Spinnaker rides we have another awesome dinner at sunset on the beach topped off with a campfire. Thursday May 9th
5 AM we’re up and motoring north back to Loreto. There’s a 15kt breeze out of the west allowing us to sail without motors for a couple of hours for the passage. We’ll make Loreto a little early and make arrangements to put Gato Loco in a slip overnight while the crew gets busy with readying the boat for the next crew. The main thing we need is water and there’s a great story on water delivery that I’ll pass on in the next update.
Crew change…. We say goodbye to Chris, Ed and Marcia today and welcome Scott, Jamie, Roger and Alisa. We’ll be in the slip tonight and will have dinner together with both crews. I have to say THANKS to the southbound and Rally crew for a awesome cruise. It was a great experience both challenging and BIG FUN.

Hello Lowell, we love seeing your updates, they always remind us of one our first trips across with Dave and Kelly, following Gato Loco from San Carlos on Grey Goose. We attended one of the last Loreto Fest gatherings.
