San Juanico and Isla Coronados anchorage Fun
Friday May 3rd
Up at sunrise to get an early start for passage Mulege to San Jaunico 65 miles south. Local fishing boats are heading out as we pull both anchors and clear the entry shoal at 7’ at high tide. Winds are the typical morning breeze coming from Conception. After clearing Punta Conception, the northern most point of Conception, winds clock out of the southeast at 8 giving us some wind assist pushing us in the high 6 kt speeds. All in all a good passage arriving in San Juanico 2ish. Only 2 boats as we arrive with 15kts blowing directly into the anchorage. Gato Loco always gets a well protected location in 6’ of water where keel boats can’t anchor. 
This is a great spot to get some exercise with many hiking trails. Chris leads us on a trail to the north bay anchorage over the mountain just north of Gato Loco. At the moment the north bay anchorage provides more protection and there’s 2 boats anchored. Back to San Jaunico south we check out the cruiser tree and find 2 Gato Loco offerings from the past, one 2012 and the other even earlier. The memorial for our good friend Brian we lost to soon is still hanging. Winds into the anchorage has swells 2’ out in the open area of the anchorage and we decide to brave them to get Marcia to beach on the southwest corner 
of the anchorage. Swells made for an interesting landing and now I’ll need to laundry my favorite shorts that got soaked.
Dinner tonight is Sierra Ed caught with a great sunset and a light breeze that switched out of the west for the night.
Saturday May 4th
Chris was up early and did another mountain hike and got a very cool sunrise shot. We off to Isla Coronados 19 miles south. We’re loving the short passages. West winds blow us out of the SJ anchorage then switch to the SE at 8 perfect to allow us to sail with a light motor kicker. We fetch Coronados by 1pm finding only 2 boats anchored. ay to play. No evidence of honey bees we’ve seen in the past. Lots of tourist boats coming and going. We wait until a little later after they leave to go ashore with the other boats in the anchorage to play BEERSBY using pvc pipe, beer cans and a freebie. Ed and I got the silver medal.
Sunsets from this anchorage can be spectacular and tonight it’s missing the clouds to be special. Beacon wrapped hot dogs to night with roasted carrots. Five Crown cards and off to bed. Great day.
Sunday May 5th
Today is the meet and greet dinner to start the Rally at Puerto Escondido another 20 miles south. A pod of dolphins have been working waters just outside the anchorage so join them as we leave the Coronados anchorage. Marcia and I got some great video with the pod near us in clear Coronados water. Very Cool. Only a light NE breeze as we head south with JIb sail and motors. Pulling into the Puerto Escondidos Kurt is there to greet us as we pull into the fuel dock. We’ve brought the Rally t-shirts from Penasco and their anxious to grab them for the Rally registration. Fueled and water added we’re secure on a mooring ball and dinghy in the marina restaurant for an afternoon snack. Meet and Greet starts at 4.
The Rally will have 4 personal sailboats and 3 large charter catamarans.
