Gato Loco in Conception Bay and Mulege
Thursday May 2nd (Santispac beach Conception Bay)
Loving this cool weather and light breezes at night. We’ve caught up on our sleep from the anchor watch. Scallops with garlic sauce was excellent last night at Armando’s. Had dinner the BC Canadians working their way north to haul at Cabrales. There was 4 other boats with us overnight.
7:00 am and we’re on our way back out of Conception bay to anchor in the Mulege river channel. Light winds on our stern heading north into our river (estuary) anchorage spot. The channel is shallow and it’s rare to see another boat anchored here but today there’s 30’ trawler setting in the middle of the channel. Our anchorage is near the lighthouse shore to stay out of the main channel that is used by the local fishing community. We leave lights on at night due to boats that come and go in the middle of the night and want them to know about our presence in the channel. The anchoring involves setting a stern anchor so we can anchor closer to shore out of the boats path.
Soon after the anchors are set my taxi friend Nacho drives us up the river channel a couple of miles to the main area of Mulege for some refreshments at Las Casitas and lunch at Equipales. We make a stop at the local dive shop and then back to the boat to enjoy some relaxing and paddle boarding. Marcia has a special elliptical board that is very fast (see the video).
Another Mulege river channel sunset with a cool breeze before us boys head to El Patron for dinner while Marcia relaxes and enjoys the boat to herself. Returning from dinner Marcia has the boat lite with a cool vibe and have a great finish for the evening. Tomorrow we off to San Juanico 25 mile north of Loreto. We’re almost there.
