Heading to the Baja Sailing Rally in Loreto
This will be the 13th annual Baja Rally bring sailors together cruising the Loreto Bay National Park of Islands. Our good friends at WestCoastMutihulls have been organizing and sponsoring the annual reunion of friends and new sailors we meet each year. I’ve been creating the shirt design each year and this year it features the Express catamaran that WCM charters out of Puerto Escondido near Loreto.
Crews are all finalized and excited for the experience to spend time in harmony with the Sea. This year we have a seasoned crew sailing south to Loreto and north to Penasco. Heading south Co-captain Chris and Ed & Marcia have been on previous cruises. Chris owned a larger Seawind catamaran and has lots of Sea time. Ed & Marcia live in Cholla Bay and love the Sea and both are good fishermen as well. Hoping for good fish dinners along the way. This crew will stay on to enjoy the Rally. For leg 3, it will be the first time for Cholla neighbors Scott & Jamie. They love the Sea and are at home in Mexico making for a great crew. Scott is a good fishermen as well. Along with Scott & Jamie we’ll have Roger & Alisa. They cruised briefly on Gato Loco years ago and have done some day sailing with us and now get to relax and cruise the Loreto Bay Park islands. Roger is a free diver and between him and Scott we should eat well from their catch. This will be a fun week. Sailing back to Penasco co-owner Paul & Kate and Doug will be on board. Paul has crewed a couple of times and they have been sailing Gato Loco locally here in Penasco since joining ownership. This will be a good cruising orientation for them with co-captain responsibilities. Doug and I did a cruise to Loreto years ago and he crewed north once also. He’s a retired Navy guy and loves his time on the Sea. He also helped with the recovery of Gato Loco, Thank you very much! Oh did I mention I have musicians on all the legs with Roger being the professional highlight. There will probably be a lot of late night music under the stars. Roger has a big concert weekend Circus Mexicus coming up in Penasco June 6-10th as Gato Loco returns to Penasco.

You all & Gato Loco just keep on getting better and better with age – still have huge fun together and so obviously loving the sailing life and the Baja Rally. What an amazing record of your adventures in the Archives – 20 years of Baja sailing on Gato Loco with possibly many hundreds of people being introduced by you to Seawind sailing & Baja cruising.
Somewhere in there Kerry & I featured on our wonderful trip with you sailing out of Loretto. And then, of course, sailing with you & Bill on the new SW1160 from Newport to New York. So many good memories.
It is wonderful that you are still creating new ones.
