Conception and Mulege heading north
Sunday May 15th
Heading Conception Bay today but first we wanted to make a very special visit to the cruiser tree so Heather could see Brian’s memorial we created 3 years ago. As you might expect this was very emotional for Heather. She brought 2 personal items of Brian’s to add the plaque, an eye patch and a wrist band. We surrounded her with love and support and she said it was one more step in the healing process. The memories here will live on with a special loving moment for Heather.
Love
An emotional departure this morning saying good bay to San Juanico which will have special memories for us all. Love you Heather.
Seas are flat this morning and we’re able to cook an egg and bacon breakfast while underway. Winds build mid-day on our starboard rear and early afternoon we’re sailing without motors. Rounding the cape and entering Conception winds crack up and we’re smoking toward Playa Santispac our anchorage at 8 kts.
Tonight another dinner at Armando’s. It’s busy with friendly travelers including a couple in an RV that were camping San Juanico our last anchorage. Tonight there’s a full lunar eclipse and it’s the talk in the restaurant. There’s some high wispy clouds that we hope won’t interfere with watching eclipse.
Another good meal but they’re running out of ice for drinks. One table saved the day by going to his boat and retuning with 2 bags of Ice. Another round of drinks and we’re back to the boat for the eclipse show.
Tonight’s lunar eclipse is sponsored by Cancion Tequila. Heather saludes the eclipse with a bottle of Silver that is tasting just fine. The eclipse lasted 2 hours about the same for the bottle. Just very cool evening on the bow of Gato Loco
Monday May 16th
Off to Mulege today for yet another fun day in MUUUULLLLEEEGGGGEEE (mu la hay). Heather has been here twice, once on Gato Loco and once by car and she’s looking forward to showing Gwen and Kurt our little gem on the river.
It all starts at Hotel La Senaida with a supper pour margarita. Gwen is quite happy with her drink. The hotel calls our favorite local taxi Nacho who will take care of us.
We’re off to Equipages for another great lunch and margs.
Heather found a cool brew pub on her last visit and it just a short Heather walk to the entry to town. Well after some serious walking we finally make it to Mulege Brewery and meet the owner. Now this is a must visit on future visits.
Next stop Hotel Los Casitas were we find refuge and a friendly dog that wants constant petting. Too bad Frankie isn’t here to take care of him. Beautiful garden hotel that Heather stayed at during car visit.
A visit to the Mercado for provisions then a call to Nacho for a ride back to Gato but first a quick visit to the 2nd oldest mission in Baja. Nacho is very proud of his little village and the mission and loves to pose with Kurt and Gwen.
Back on Gato Loco for a colorful evening as the sun set and the moon rises. Very damp night and the boat is soaked.
Tuesday morning and we’re fogged in.
Until the next Update
.
What a cool spirit of Gato Loco adventures. Giving loving support to friends, ice to a restaurant that’s running out and gas to a fishing boat far from shore that’s almost on empty. Visiting friends along the way and making new ones. Sail on captain Lowell and the fun crew you have on leg 3.
Bitter sweet trip for Heather. I don’t know her but, prayers for more healing.
Give a wave to Hammerhead Point lighthouse. We camped out for a week on the beach. Miss hotel Punta Chavato, lucky to visit several times in the 90’s when it was very active.
Big love to Heather and to Cap’n Bri! Muuuuuuuuuuleeeeheyyyyyyyyy!!! Enjoy ???
Healing steps along the path of life. Revisiting past memories and making new ones is bittersweet and healthy. I share these moments with you from afar, but with you and the crew in Spirit. Your Maaaaa!
