Rally Days begin
Thursday May 5th
The Multihull rally begins with a Cinco de Mayo meet and greet party at Marina Puerto Escondido. Great little 2 piece band sets the mode for the evening keeping everyone moving. Some past rally friends are here but mostly new sailing crews to get to know. It was very nice to meet the new owners of Moon Drifter, Bill daughter Ally and husband Cori. During our discussion I mentioned the tradition of French toast on the last morning and I think they might just carry on the tradition.
Friday May 6th
9 catamarans and one monohull parade out of Pt Escondido while Eddie our drone photographer captures the group. We’re headed to Isla Monserrate’s Yellowstone beach on the north side of the island.. During my discussion this morning on the Amigo net there are 8 boats already anchored on the 1/4 mile beach anchorage. As a result of our Amigo report some boats move to the east end of the anchorage to make room for us. THANKYOU
Sailing the 17 miles out to the island there’s at least 2 humpback whales in the area. Awesome watching humpbacks while having breakfast complements of chief cook Eric. Trever on Arya took a picture of Gato and the whale that I will post later. Kurt motored out in the charter tender with the BBQ and then took Ed out to the island reef north of Yellowstone fishing. Returning Ed holds up their big catch a little leopard grouper big enough for lunch.
As you can see all the boats found a nice anchorage on the west end of Yellowstone. We anchored close the west end reef where there is some of the best snorkeling in the area.
For sunset we all hit the beach for a pot luck winnie roast. Lots of food plus the charter boat Bulam brought steak, chicken and shrimp skewers, a step up from past years. Our offering was sierra ceviche and Hornitos tequila.
The picture right are friends we meet that use Penasco’s Cabrales boatyard as their cruising base. The couple right are from Switzerland.
Nice meeting new friends. We finished the night with shots and back on the boat with Ed playing guitar.
All good on Gato Loco
Until the next Update
Great to be able to follow your adventures for a land lubber like me,although I live 200 yes from the beach.
Looks like great fun .
You know we would love to be there too, but your blog lets us enjoy a virtual rally. Miss you mucho!
