Awesome downwind leg to Puerto Lobos
Disclaimer I’ve had a good happy hour before writing this blog.
The decision to sail toward Puerto Lobo turned out to be a great plan. After getting a later departure out of Penasco winds did us a big favor pushing us into Puerto Lobos. As I reported in the last blog winds started in in the 5kt range but by 1 pm we had motors off and winds at 18-20 gusting to 24 on our starboard steer and Gato Loco pushing 10kts at times. We got a big breakfast cooked on the grill before winds arrived just as Villa predicted. Waves grew to 6’and to give auto helm Chris and I did 3 hours of hand steering as we surged to 11kts at times. It was and epic sail.
Arriving near sunset we have a pod of dolphins all around the boat feeding on something? Eventually at sunset the dolphins started playing and jumping.

Murril recovered from a tough day of Sea sickness and cooked an awesome pasta dinner. All good on Gato Loco.
Heading to Puerto Refugio tomorrow. Looks like we will again have good winds.
Until the next week.
Hi Lowell, Frankie & crew
What a perfect start to the 2022 Sea of Cortez Gato Loco adventure. It doesn’t get much better than this & I’m sure everyone had big smiles all day. Beautiful photos as always but especially the last one taken just before dusk & capturing the leaping dolphin. The perfect ending to a tropical sail.
Hope the rest of the cruise is equally wonderful.
Wish we were there with you.
