Baja Rally 22 cruise plans coming together
The 2019 beach party on Isla Coronado was a fun time as you can tell from the group photo near sunset. This years Rally looks to be another fun sailing reunion of friends. Below photo, the Rally anchored in San Juanico on Baja 20 miles north of Loreto.
We’ve been busy organizing the crews for the sail to Loreto,The Rally and the sail back to Penasco. I’m also the official shirt designer and have been busy with this years Rally design. I have to thank Salvador at Cabrales Boatyard for again sponsoring the Rally helping with shirt expenses. Anybody reading this, Cabrales is your go to boatyard in the Northern Sea of Cortez.
Gato Loco is near ship shape for the cruise. New co-owner Clyde has a AVProduction company and is currently upgrading Gato Loco audio/video systems for the cruise. Unfortunately his business has really picked up and he won’t be on the cruise due to business commitments. The new co-owners will be missed for the Rally cruise.
Cruising plans
Leg 1 April 24th – May 3rd – Penasco to Loreto : Lowell, Rick, Murril and Chris French
Leg 2 May 3rd – May 12th – Rally Days : Lowell, Ed Brockmeyer, Eric Behrmann
Leg 3 May 12th – May 21st – Loreto to Penasco : Lowell, Heather, Kurt & Gwen (Heather’s friends)
Looks like we have good crews this season as usual. They’re all booked for flights so it’s a go.
Leg 1 Rick is a co-owner with lot’s of cruises under his belt, most notably steering Gato Loco north up Whale channel in 40 knot winds. One of my best friends Murril has many cruises as well, knows the ropes and loves to cook (perfect). Chris is a seasoned sailor who owned his Seawind 1160 Strickadonia. His experience is invaluable.
Leg 2 Ed has the experience of being on the last leg in 2019 with his wife Marca. He’s a good hand and an excellent fisherman. Eric is new to sailing and has followed our cruises over the years and is ready for a sailing adventure.
Leg 3 Heather is a seasoned sailor with lots of experience on Gato Loco. She’s bringing along sailing friends from Portland Oregon Kurt and Gwen. They’ve visited Penasco many times enjoying the music scene and have sailing experience. I look forward to showing them the Northern Sea of Cortez.
Thanks to Jeffrey and Lynnie we’ll again have a Iridium commination system on board. It gives us the possibility to send updates from remote areas of the cruise but has limited data service so updates may be brief. As you can imagine crew families are happy to be able to stay in touch.
Leg 1 crew will arrive in Penasco early afternoon Saturday the 23rd and finish final prep. Our marina staff will have Gato Loco washed, waxed and bottom cleaned. We should depart weather permitting Sunday. Let the fun begin.
Until the next Update
I’m ready for a fun adventure
Super excited to cruise with all of you. It is going to be a blast! Now put me to work 🙂
We are so looking forward to this! Kurt has lots of sailing experience, but I’m a relative newbie. Excited to learn the ropes (literally and figuratively)!
