Gato Loco arrives in Gonzaga Bay
Good news, I heard from Gato Loco last night (Monday) after just arriving in Gonzaga Bay. They reported an exhilarating leg with good winds sailing from Puerto Lobos to Puerto Refugio. Friday night strong north winds rolled into the anchorage along with chilling temps. There was 3 other boats in the anchorage as they arrived. They had a rough rolling night and found a better anchorage for the north swell the following days. The photo below from past cruises shows Gato Loco anchored in the small bay well protected from north swell just inside the slot between islands.
After 3 nights in Refugio they made a dash for Gonzaga Bay with confused seas and west winds which made for an uncomfortable leg with waves coming from the north and south. Needless to say they are happy to be in a well protected anchorage with a restaurant and bar on the beautiful white sand beach. They called while having dinner and drinks at Alfonsina’s enjoying some comforts from the weather.
They plan on staying and enjoying Gonzaga for another day, heading to the islands north tomorrow.
Winds will remain out of the NW for 2 more days making passing north a little challenging. The leg to isla San Luis is just 15 miles north and good north wind protection. If plans hold they will head on to Puertecitos Thursday again with good N and NW wind protection. From there they will get a good broad reach sail across the Sea to Penasco on Friday.
Below are photos of the area they will visit as they head north to Puertecitos
Until the next Update

Wow, it looks like you are having a fantastic trip. Refugio is one of my favorite places but offers little protection from the north winds. I am happy to see that you found the sweet spot. Have fun in Gonzaga and for the rest of your trip. Remember to practice social distancing in Refugio…
thanks for sharing your adventures I love your photos
