Gato Loco slips out for a Northern Sea of Cortez cruise
Awesome news, after not sailing during the spring due to the pandemic Gato Loco departed today for a cruise to some of our favorite northern Sea anchorages. Co-owners Bill and Dave along with Cholla friend and neighbor Dawn brave the fall weather challenges where winter cold fronts have to be watched closely. They departed early this morning destination Puerto Lobos. Looking at today’s Noaa forecast they have a very good chance to thread the needle for a good sailing cruise. Today the NW winds will provide a good leg to Lobos and the Lobos anchorage will provide good protection from north winds. Tomorrow they cruise the 60+ miles to Puerto Refugio and hold up while our first winter cold front passes. If they get the afternoon winds forecasted it will be another good sail to Refugio. After that mother nature will be in control of their cruise as they plan to head on to the Gonzaga area for a few days and then on to Puertecitos before heading back to Penasco.
This is Dawn’s first cruise so we will be interested in hearing her reaction the the sailing experience. I hope to hear from them in Lobos tonight and will pass along an update if I do. Bill has his drone with him so we should have some good views of their anchorages when they return.

Glad to see you are getting out for some fun in the sea! The crew at WCM is looking in to dates for Baja Rally 2021 and will keep you posted. Business in Loreto and our new location in La Paz is ramping up and you’ll be glad to know that American is now flying direct from Phoenix to Loreto (so I’m told!)
Say hi to Gato Loco crew and hope to see you guys in the spring!
Kurt
