Gato Loco – Leg 5, Fish ON
Thursday May 30th
And the “Fish On” leg 5 is underway. First stop is Isla Coronados for some beach time for Ed and Marcia in this beautiful island anchorage. Back on the boat and we’re all in the water cleaning the bottom so we can be in the “go fast” mode heading north.
This anchorage’s clear water is a perfect spot to clean the bottom. It’s not been done since we left Penasco.
Coronados white sand beach and Marcia is snapping photos like crazy while Dave takes the nature hike.
Fish On Report
Okay, we’ve not landed one fish yet this season. Sailing north from Coronados heading to San Juanico winds are blowing out of the east and we’re cruising screecher and main with no motors when the fishing rods start singing. First fish is bonito (skip jack). It’s not a keeper. Shortly another reel is singing. Another bonito. Awesome to see fish being reeled in.Great job Ed,
Winds die out and we finish our trip to San Juanico by motors. Anchor down 4ish and Ed has a small pole in and soon brings in a small grouper. Now we need more so Ed and I head out in the dinghy to catch more. Soon, Yes he’s a fishing machine, we have another grouper and a bigger trigger, enough for a nice fish dinner.
Friday May 31
All well overnight with the usual west winds cooling the anchorage. We’re headed to Mulege today, but first we’re headed to the cruiser shrine to place a momentum for our good friend Lynn that passed away recently. This is another emotional visit for us and especially Marcia who was very close to Lynn.
We’re a little melancholy but all good on Gato Loco. Dave cheers us up with breakfast waiting when we return to the boat and weigh anchor for Mulege.
Poles in the water. Just a hint, the next fishing report is good.
Until the Next Update
