Tuesday May 21st
Isla Coronados weather is perfect for a weenie roast, No bees on the boat is the best bonus for the anchorage, a first for us. Everybody is enjoying the turquoise water with great visibility. This is the only island in the Loreto island park that allows beach fires and has the nice palapa area with a built in grill. This is the romantic beach that the Loreto charter boats bring vacationers out to walk and swim the beach right in front of us. As boaters we get to enjoy this place as one of the best Loreto area anchorage.
Photo right .. Kurt meeting up with Carl and Roxie on Sky Pond in the bay. Winds are still blowing out of the NE producing a slight slow roll and with the wind paddle boarding is a bit challenging. Going ashore we enjoy walking the beach, checking out the raised boardwalk through the nature hike and swimming the warm shallow waters near shore. Our crew John has had aquariums all his life and enjoys setting in the shallow and entertaining the little reef fish like he has in his fish tank. He could name them all.
6ish and it’s time for the beach party. For years Guy, on Stray Cat, has been our fire starter. In his absence, luckily I found some lighter fluid on board that fired things up pretty easily. Ralph and Helen also always bring things like table cloths and other accessories. Oh well we’ll have to live without this year but will miss both Moon Drifter and Stray Cat.
As always, there’s lots of food to go around and lots of time for everyone to catch up since last year or for new friendships for the coming years. This is what I call sailor fellowship and that’s what it’s all about.
We all had all the great time and a beautiful sunset was definitely part of the finale. Check out Frankie and Carol’s “Allison” pose.
It’s Balam crew, Felicia & John’s 30th wedding anniversary and somehow a cake made it’s way to the island to make for a nice conclusion to the awesome dinner on the beach. They were totally surprised and had it served up in short order. Happy anniversary to them.
Music rang out in the anchorage late into the night with Brian on Cat2fold entertaining us with his guitar and telling telling stories of his adventures in Mexico. He’s an awesome musician who plays music as he sails south to Puerto Vallarta and points further south.
Another weenie roast in the books.
Until the next Update
All good on Gato Loco
