Heading North from San Carlos
Let this bus ride be over… I’ve been talking by phone with the crew, they arrived a couple hours earlier and have finished shopping at Mercado Super Ley. Weather in San Carlos is hot and the marina has mosquitos making for one of the most uncomfortable nights I’ve spent on Gato Loco. Finally a good breeze near sunrise for some relief. A night like that deserves a lazy morning which we top off with a swim in front of the Soggy Peso and lunch at the beach bar. Winds are light, 10 kts from the SE making Isla San Pedro a good first target on our way to Ensenada Los Cocinas. We arrived at the anchorage before 6 with time to relax with one other boat Reggae setting in the anchorage. Sally and Suzanne went for a swim and I motored over to visit with Reggae who we were anchored with 7 weeks ago in front of the Soggy Peso in big winds. Dan has been sailing in the same cruising grounds as us and will be out for another month. Our lucky day.. He just caught a Dorado and has cooked more than he can eat giving us enough for dinner. What a treat since we never even had a pole in the water today.
Breezy, cool, with light rain last night making a great night of sleeping. Crew up early hiking and swimming. Just as we pull anchor (8:30) winds fill in big time out of the SE at 18-23kts. Winds will be on our port stern giving us a 8-10 ride north toward Tiburon. I’m finishing writing this off Kino Bay and the swells are now at 5 ft and we have to hand steer through the waves. Crew doing well with these seas, Lew is steering at the moment. We are shooting for Tiburon SW anchorage today but will go to Dog bay on the SE if conditions warrent. Need to run.. Lowell, Sally, Lew and Suzanne having a great sailing day to Tiburon. Leg 1 April 11-19, Crew: Lowell, Bill, Derave – Puerto Penasco to San Carlos . .
