Gato Loco Leg 2–The Boys Cruise Part 2
Monday May 13th
Mulege river channel
Today we sailed up from Conception Bay with NE winds forcing us to tack our way out of Conception. The moon cycle is near half so we motor into the river channel over the shoal with 6’ under our keels. We see 2 other boats in the channel, a trimaran and a small catamaran. It’s very usually to see boats in here but they both are shallow draft boats like Gato Loco.
We’re heading in to the town of Mulege 2 miles up the river channel by motoring over to the near by Hotel Serenidad for lunch and then contacting our favorite taxi driver Nacho to take us on into Mulege.
Nacho gives us a nice driving tour since we have Mulege Newbies on this Leg. Photos of the hotel, nearby homes along the river and the river waterfront near downtown.
First stop is Mission de Nuestra Senora the 2nd oldest mission in Baja. The panoramic is from Chris of the entire Mulege river area. You can see the note on the photo where Gato Loco is anchored. The town of Mulege is in the center of the photo.
Here we are at the Mission and then on to our favorite Mexican restaurant for some refreshments.
Back to the boat to enjoy the late afternoon and sunset.
As always Mulege is one of the most interesting anchorages on our way south. The local fishermen use the river channel day and night heading out to fish and give us entertainment as they pass by. Some ease by and some fly by on their way.
We enjoy the sunset as it sets on the river west with the drone to capturing the view and the moment. Soon after, Nacho picks us up to head back in to town for dinner. Our usual dinner spot near our anchorage El Patron is closed today. All is well and we found an awesome seafood combo dinner with lobster, scallops, shrimp and fish dinner at Exepolos where we had margaritas earlier today. Back on the boat after dinner and it’s time to sample “The Kraken” black spiced rum, we bought today, to top off a great day in Mulege. Yes we survived the Kraken.
Until the next Update
