Concepcion Bay

Spread the love

IMG 0649Our anchorage last night was quiet and peaceful. We woke to a light breeze and of course, sunshine. We lounged on the boat for a few hours, spied an island, rock and shore and headed off to our first snorkel adventure of the day. Bill eased Gato Loco into a perfect little spot next to some rocks and a small island. The water is warm and the visibility is pretty good. We find lots of scallops, sea cucumbers, sting rays, tons of small fish and many empty shells. There is also very tall grass growing from the bottom. We all are nervous when we have to swim over and through large patches of it. Soon we decide to move on to another snorkel area close by. Again, Bill drops us in a great spot 20 feet from these cool rocks filled with pelicans and seagulls. The birds are not pleased with our invasion and they verbalize this to us. We all drop in the water and snorkel on. The cliffs have many ledges just underwater so, we get to see much more sea life. Roger and Carl take to the hunt and are successful spearing a trigger and a snapper. We spent most of the afternoon in that spot alternately swimming, playing backgammon, reading and just telling lies!! The wind continued to build throughout the afternoon and we getting hungry and thirsty and just need to stand on dry land, so we hoisted anchor and sailed over to Bertha’s little cantina. We dropped the hook in front of the beach, and readied ourselves for the dinghy ride in. When, all of a sudden there rose such a clatter, I looked to the mountain to see what’s the matter!!!..It’s goats!! 4 springing, clanging, leaping, bleating, cud chewing, chin fur wearing goats!! Ahhhh the wild life!!

Bertha’s kept us happy with the fishbowl margaritas and chips. Bill,Roger and Carl ordered the bbq chicken which was yesterdays special. (note to self..never order yesterdays special) I think the words they chose were “hard as a rock, fowl, road kill, fried IMG 0661 bat,zx#$*,and other happy words. On the other hand, I had Milanasa, Heather had carne tostadas, Alisa garlic scallops and Mike had cheeseburger in paradise. Bertha’s is located on a sand spit created by an estuary.

After leaving Bertha’s, we walked to the dinghy and spotted Bill’s missing flip flops. He had lost them the day before and figured they had been lost at sea. We found our new anchorage and settled in. The evening ended with a “spirited” game of hearts. This was the first experience of this card game for Roger and Alisa. Alisa, is a ringer!!. We all left with our heads hanging low and smiles on our faces.. good on ya Alisa..Off to bed..Hasta Pasta….

Brian,Heather,Bill,Roger,Alisa,Carl and Mike.
