Loreto to San Juanico to San Sebastion
Hurray!! Alisa has arrived!! After being delayed on the Phoenix to Hermosillo flight and experiencing another delay in Hermosillo, they lifted off for Loreto only to find the airport was closed. Well, off to La Paz! Anyway, after another delay in La Paz, Alisa is on the boat. We pulled anchor around 1:00 and by 5:00 we were anchored at Tres Pilars, our first snorkel spot. The water is chilly so the swim was brief. Roger and Carl have wet suits and spear guns, so their misson was to provide dinner. Roger was sucessful in landing a “greybar grunt” which we consumed after we left Tres Pilars and dropped the hook in San Juanico Cove. The wind was coming off the land so it made for a very warm night sleeping. The area is tall sandstone sculptured cliffs, cactus and lot’s of ospreys. In the morning, we took a fast swim and hoisted anchor at 9:30 bound for Punta Pulpito. Of course whenever you get a couple of fishermen on board, there will always be competition for the best fish..or any fish! Bill fished/trolled for 2 hours with no success. Now it is Mike’s turn. Mike bought a lure from a guy in Loreto who “saw Mike coming”. Mike walked out of the store with a big smile and a lot less pesos in his pocket. The lure looks like a small hubcap with a hook on it! Well, Mike’s lure caught something..maybe a fish ..or maybe the poor sea lion that popped up rubbing his side!! Anyway, good on ya mate!! 11:30, and we are anchored off of Punta Pulpito. Everyone is in the water flippering towards their special destination. Roger and Carl are working the shear cliffs for the catch of the day, Alisa is hiking the cliffs, and all is well. Carl caught a snapper so dinner is assured. We hoist the hook and now we are off to our final anchorage of the day,San Sebastion. Our anchorage will be a very small cove that can accomodate only 2 or 3 yachts. We are filled with apprehension as we motorsail towards our destination. If we arrive and there are boats already in the anchorage, we will have to pass and travel another 4 hours to the next safe anchorage. Suddenly, we spot 2 trimaran sailboats off our stern and on the same heading to our small anchorage. The race is on!!! Of course having an enthusiastic awesome crew on board, we soon turned our pursuers into “chump change”. We arrived to an empy cove,we dropped the hook and settled in. As usual, everyone jumps in the water and snorkels off to explore. Roger and Carl return with 5 nice size fish that we grill for dinner with sides of cold slaw and black beans. We retired to the front “veranda” for tales of the day. There was some talk of movie night with “Natcho Libre” but it was close to 11:00 and we were pooped.Off to bed. Brian,Heather,Bill, Roger,Alisa,Carl, and Mike.
