Back in La Paz Saturday May 24th

By Lowell | May 24, 2008 | Category Baja 08

Spread the love

IMG 2917Savoring our last minutes on the cool Pacific, Frankie and Neely pose in front of the morning surfers after we had breakfast and said adios to Cerritos staff we come to know over the past two days. As we arrive for breakfast they greeted us with a welcome home but it’s time to move on to Todo Santos. Over the past two days we heard a lot about the Pescadero area where there are other surf hotels and lots of cool beach homes. The plan is to drive the area thinking about possibly renting a house for a month next season after sailing to the La Paz area. You know I need to work on my surfing and Frankie needs to start surfing since next year will be a significant birthday year for her.IMG 2918

Arriving 5km north of Cerritos we drive into a flat farm community with roads along fields of vegetables all leading to the beach. We turned at a sign for the San Pedritio Surf Hotel where Bill and crew had stayed during their Pacific surfing trip last week. Roads are going everywhere at the end of eachIMG 2922 field and no signs, Roads are firm so we just started wondering and taking photos. Eventually we found the San Pedritio Surf Hotel and spotted many other interesting places that we might stay in the future.

Building styles in the area are adobe with palapa roofs. Two examples:IMG 2925

Next stop Todo Santos. Bill had not giving us a good report on the only RV park there so we spent some time walking the historic area and then tried to find the beach in hopes of finding a place to park for the night. Okay, if you think the roads at Pescadero go everywhere, Todo Santas is even worse. We made it to the beach once but dead ended at an exclusive resort. A couple more tries and we finally decided to head on to La Paz where we know we can find a RV park and walk the malecon one last time.

IMG 2942 Friday night and La Paz traffic is busy. We drove towards the water the area we’re familiar with and our instruction to the RV park are based on being on the main HW1. Finally I went to the desk at Marina de La Paz and got good instructions. Yes, Another huge RV park with only us and Bud from Cabo Pulmo there. Having just visited Cabo Pulmo it didn’t take long to start a long conversation about our visit and getting lots of on insight into the Cabo Pulmo area. Bud was a contractor from Santa Fe NM. They’ve lived Cabo Pulmo the past 5 years and with wife Mary built their home themselves. Fun trading stories about Mexican workers and the trials and tribulations of building in Mexico, especially in Cabo Pulmo totally off the grid. The past two Augusts have brought hurricanes (John cat 5, and Henrieta cat 1). He is in La Paz taking Spanish classes trying to get fluent like his wife.

Saturday morning… Off to Puerto Escondido to meet Gato Loco
