San Carlos to Puerto Penasco June 15 - 22 2005It's time to bring Gato Loco home for the summer. She is currently in the maintenance yard at Marina Seca in San Carlos, Mexico. She has new bottom paint with some minor repairs and should sail like grease lighting with the new bottom. The cruise home starts this Wednesday with a bus (yes, I'm going to ride a bus again) ride with fellow crew member Walt Applewhite from Phoenix to San Carlos (~8 hours we hope). Bill and Captain Brian will leave by bus from Puerto Penasco also on Wed.. The first race is to see who arrives in San Carlos first :) The boat is being launched Wed morning and we arrive late in the afternoon to clean and provision hoping to depart early Thursday morning. The itinerary is pretty loose but we probably will do something as I've charted. Thurs
- make as much progress up the coast
There are two long legs, crossing to Baja, and the final leg from Refugio to Penasco. I suspect we will take the Bahia Tapaca option if we are on track for this itinerary. We do need to be in Puerto Penasco by mid-day Wed... Weather looks good with the cooler/windier conditions holding. I did note the first Pacific hurricane is setting off central america, a reminder on why we run north before any action comes our way. We'll also be watching for big winds around Bay of LA they call "Elafanta's" coming off the Baja mountains. These are something you watch for each night this time of year. As usual we'll see what we can do to entertain you with some interesting updates during the cruise. Don't reply to our updates as we will not receive them. Contact us with small emails with the link below. Until the next update… The Gato Loco Crew Logs from the cruise Arriving in San Carlos |
