Day 1 ended with some serious exercise walking the quiet streets on Sunday night. Unfortunately when we settled in for the evening my photo memory card died so all images were lost from day 1. Lessen learned, I’m backing up on the boat computer.<\/p>\n

Slow rising crew on day 2 after 3 days of early departures to get leg 2 started. Now off to town for some photos.<\/p>\n

\"IMGThe ladies, Leslie & Frankie are glad to see the shops open. Town has the normal activity with lots of friendly people greeting us on every corner. For those of you that haven’t read our Santa Rosalia blogs in the past, the town was founded by the French around 1885 (for copper mining) with all early building materials coming from from Europe, mainly wood, and quiet a contrast to other Baja towns.<\/p>\n

The town lies in a narrow valley with homes and old mining operations rolling up the hill sides. 3 main streets is where the town sets and easily walked from the marina. Victor is a Phoenix fire fighter and quickly spots the local fire station. Fire fighters are friends around the world and with him speaking fluent Spanish he becomes our celebrity. They want photos with him and of course want us to mail them copies..<\/p>\n

Houses built as row house style are connect and very colorful. Soon we discovered a nice salon where Victor got a hair cut while Frankie and Leslie shopped the jewelry counter and Neely & I scored a fruit coctail from the corner vendor..<\/p>\n

Our last stop was the historic bakery which creates a mixture of Mexican and French breads. Great sweet breads. Our friend in the cowboy hat was watching street activities from the bakery window.<\/p>\n

Our plan was to sail to Mulege later in the day but with the \"IMGlate rising and having fun in town we decide to just sail to Isla San Marcos 15 miles south.<\/p>\n

Winds gusting as we leave the harbor and went flat shortly after we get sails up. Seas are a little bumpy. Time for lunch and good news winds are back out of the north, motors off for a quiet lunch and sail to San Marcos. We anchored in a new spot for us on the south shore with sand bottom and a beach used by the local gypsum mining village on the island..<\/p>\n

\"IMG No time wasted, off to do some fishing with Victor and Neely (no luck). Temps are warming now and we’re thinking of swimming.<\/p>\n

After sunset we were approached by a Army security boat to check us out. They asked us where we came from and where we were headed and then told us to have a good evening. Good to see they’re watching. Great dinner and a loud game of hearts (poor Leslie) !!<\/p>\n

\nLeg 4 May 3-10<\/strong>, Crew:Bill, Frankie ,Lowell, Neely, Bob & Chris Sanders, Kerry Fahey (AU). Sail the Loreto area \u2026. Steve and Cindy will also be in the Loreto area this week.
\nLeg 5 May 10-17<\/strong>, Crew:Bill, Lisa Wendt, Sally Dalton, Marilyn Haney. Frankie, Neely and I head back to San Carlos flying or by Ferry.
