Big plans today.\u00a0 We\u2019re heading down to Isla Salsipuedes to hike the island have lunch and then further down to our over night anchorage at San Francisquito. Chris and I are up at 5:30 to haul anchor and get an early start on the day. Heading south down the lower Whale channel the sun is about to pop up over Isla Angel de la Guarda (angel island). Winds are light on our route and it looks to be very windy north in the Whale\u00a0 channel as forecasted. We\u2019re happy we made that passage yesterday. Winds up to 10 just off our<\/p>\n

\n<\/a><\/p>\n

starboard bow mid morning so we\u2019re pinching and making good progress motor sailing when we spot some huge dolphins approaching. On closer look these aren\u2019t dolphins they\u2019re Orca whales and there\u2019s probably 12 of them. They approach the boat and play briefly then head on. This is awesome to say the least. Murril suggests we turn and chase them. Our good luck they finally turn and approach us \"PXL_20220427_172249382\"<\/a>a 2nd time and we have our cameras ready. A few swim right next to the boat to what looks like \u201cgetting a look at us\u201d. We\u2019ve got lots of pictures and a great video. Next stop Isla Salsipuedes. Chris has never been here. He\u2019s a serious hiker and the island has some serious hikes. The island is formed from one rock with soft contuses nice for hiking.<\/p>\n

\"IMG_1062\"<\/a>Approaching the island\u2019s south anchorage we see the Tony Reyes charter fishing boat collecting pangas for to move to a new fishing location. No other boats to be seen.<\/p>\n

Waters are very clear and would be good for snorkeling HOWEVER water is in the 60s a bit cold. Maybe on the way north we can check it out.<\/p>\n

\"DSC_0555\"<\/a>Murril was the one with the camera so no pics of him. The little gnats are a problem so as soon as we finish the hike we\u2019re off. Lunch on the sail to San Francisquito. Great afternoon sail only that allowed us to sail right into our slot anchorage early (4ish). One other boat in the outer bay. Chris and Rick hopped into the dinghy to try for some fresh fish for dinner but soon returned with an excuse that the lures wasn\u2019t right. I guess it\u2019s chicken for dinner. Cool damp night so we stayed in the cabin playing Shut the Box (Rick\u2019s rules) while he constantly accuses us of changing the rules.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re off to Santa Rosalia tomorrow so we\u2019ll be up early to make the 76 mile passage.<\/p>\n
