Wednesday May 9th 6 AM <\/p>\n

This blogs Interesting title stems from our sail south from Kino Bay to Las Cocinas north of San Carlos. A low lying point, Punta Baja extends a long sand shoal out miles off shore. We always think we\u2019re giving the shoal enough room but add in the fog you see in the photo above and we\u2019 re sailing into the abyss.  With depths in the single digits for the past hour we\u2019re finally forced to tack when it hits 6 feet. Did I mention we\u2019re miles off shore. The running joke during the experience was if we run ground we should \u201cgrab our flip flops an abandon ship\u201d. It generated lots of laughs. The fog was very cool, literally.<\/p>\n

Our day starts at 6AM<\/p>\n

The anchor is up so we could catch the strong offshore morning breeze. With the  surf challenge yesterday we didn\u2019t load all the fuel we might need so we\u2019re very happy to have winds. Great, no motors needed and we have 6kts speed. Quiet morning and Dave and Ellen sleep in. The landscape south of Kino becomes sand dunes and then low lying beach dunes. Further south you see cuts in the dunes for channels to shrimp farm lagoons behind the dunes.<\/p>\n

Further south we see the fog bank west of us and watch it slowly engulf us with 100 foot visibility. Air is cool and dump and winds continue to build from the south. The crew is loving the change and running for warmer cloths. After clearing Punta Baja the skies clear and local fishing boat appears in a far distance slowing baring down on us. Approaching they wanted to sell some fish and capture a photo of Gato Loco to take home to their family.<\/p>\n

Deb finished another coloring book masterpiece and I try out our new paddle board at Las Cocinas<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Our leg today was Kino to Las Cocinas (the kitchens) was 42 miles south. Dropping anchor 4ish there\u2019s time to play end enjoy the warmer water. The anchorage offers perfect protection from the SE winds that continue to build. Last time this crew was here a panga come in and sold us lobster, no such luck today. <\/p>\n

Another beautiful sunset to the open water and islands to the west.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Cool evening and we can feel the SE winds increase through the night.<\/p>\n
