Officially heading for Puerto Penasco
Saturday afternoon May 24th
Thanks to a huge effort by David Cunningham working on our wounded motor we were able to pull the dock lines and head north at 4 PM Saturday. Exiting Puerto Escondido there’s 10 boats in the mooring field and another 15 in the waiting room. Weather over the coming days looks light. Turning north exiting Escondido we have 7kts on our nose forcing us to motor sail north. Our destination Isla Coronados 18 mile north. We ease the power up on the repaired engine and she responds just like the old days. Good to have the old girl back in service. Her hum is reassuring.
A mile north we see a huge pod of dolphins and 2 whales working a fish boil. With sunset near we have no time to explore but we’re hoping this is a sign of things to come as we head north.
Yep, another dolphin show as we approach Coronados. I looked up to see a dolphin 8’ in the air. I was ready for a 2nd jump that never happened. The other big fish in the area was Carlos Slim’s mega yacht cruising the area. Carlos is rumored to have booked the entire Nopolo resort for the next few days and he had 2 mega yachts there to entertain his guest. In case you don’t know Carlos, he’s the richest man in the world and loves to hang in the Sea of Cortez.
Anchor down before sunset in time to enjoy the rest of the evening. Happy to report the repaired engine worked flawlessly on the motor sail north. Craig & Linda are loving this beautiful anchorage. Cooler this evening perfect for sleeping. It feels good to be underway.
Sunday May 25th
Craig & Linda up before sunrise for a walk in the white sand beach. We’re headed north this morning heading at least to San Sebastian and maybe Mulege. All good on Gato Loco
