Gato Loco Departs for Baja, Adios Penasco
April 20th (day for final preperations)
Gato Loco’s 2013 cruise is underway. We’re setting on board Saturday night with all provisions stowed, bellies full from Capone’s pizza and entertainment from the crew. Right, Lynnie doing best pirate imitation right.
We’re off for Puerto Lobos tomorrow morning with the alarm set at 5 AM. My crews are early risers and hopefully they can sleep that late.
This will the last time Gato Loco sets in her slip in Penasco slip for 2 months.
Good bye Frankie.. Hello Jeffery, Lynnie and Craig..
More news tomorrow as we depart tomorrow.
Sunday April 21
We woke with Leg 3 crew on the dock with champagne roll call. What a crazy crew to wake at 4:30 to send us off. Thank you for making the morning very special.
Weather conditions for our sail to Puerto Lobos looks good with flat seas and 12kt wind out of the east as we depart Penasco. Temp for sleeping was perfect and should be in the low 80’s today. A careful exit out of the harbor to make sure there’s no nets and we point Gato Loco SSE towards Lobos. We’re officially under way. If things go right Jeffery’s fishing guide friend in Lobos will bring fresh fish to the boat if they had a good catch today making for a good dinner tonight.
All the hard work to get Gato Loco ready looks and is working great. Crews is very excited.
You should hear from us again Tuesday from Bay LA if things go as planned.
Until the next Update.. The Gato Loco Crew.

Riding the Waves to Loreto (By Craig Reay) right click here to download Craig’s song
We’re riding the waves to Loreto
Wind blowing what’s left of our hair
We’re sailing with good companeros
I hope we’ll be seeing ya there.
We’ll soon be in Puerto Escondido
With sailors from far and from near,
We’ll swap tales and curse the mosquitos
We’ll laugh and we’ll drown in our beer.
Hope the wind will be fair in Loreto,
We’ll bask in the dawn’s early light,
Then just like sombrero’d bandidos,
We’ll be off like thieves in the night.
We’re riding the waves to Loreto
We’re brash and we’re “devil may care”
We may move a bit des-pac-ito.
(But) we do it with bravado and flair.
We’ll soon be in Puerto Escondido
Providing the weather is clear,
With ole salts and weathered amigos
We’ll toast to another good year.
Hope the wind will be fair in Loreto,
We’ll bask in the dawn’s early light,
Then we’ll leave you with fond despedidos
And set sail like a seagull in flight…
Just like those fabled bandidos…
We’ll be off like thieves in the night.

Bon Voyage, Buen Viaje, May you have 15kts on the beam and not too much unexpected excitement.
Wishing I was with,
-John
Hope you guys are having a great time. It seems that when all the fishing rods got picked up (after the Bash) one was left behind. I think what you have should be good enough. If not maybe we can find a way to get the other one down to you.
Have a great time and be safe.
Best of luck and safe travels…wishing you all a great trip and hopefully good fishing..i will be following your progress..
