Gato Loco in San Carlos (Marina Real) and crew’s back in Cholla Bay
Marina Real entrance
Gato Loco sets in Marina Real, San Carlos waiting for the Leg 5 crew to arrive. Leg 4 didn’t materialize, so Bill has arranged for Leg 5 to head out a day early, arriving at the boat this Friday. This year’s Leg 5 crew will be Capt Bill, Owen & Shirley Kelly, Lisa Wiendt and friend CJ. They plan to sail to Puerto Escondido first visiting Santa Rosalia. Lisa will do her best to keep us Updated..
The Leg 3 crew completed our windy leg with a very light wind forcing us to motor the 25 miles on in to Can Carlos from our Friday night anchorage at Los Cocinas. We wanted to leave Gato Loco in Marina San Carlos closer to restaurants and supplies so I contacted Marina San Carlos about bring Gato Loco to their marina. As usual they have no space for us. Marina Real has a shallow slip that is usually open. That’s the case today, so Marina Real it is.. A toast to Leg 3 (the windy leg) at our 1st restaurant since Santa Rosalia. Sailing up through the mid-driff islands makes a nice cruise, especially when there’s wind. It was a pleasure sailing with Bruce & Cynthia for the first time.
Bruce drove us from San Carlos to Cholla Bay on Sunday arriving mid-afternoon and for Frankie, Neely and I bringing us back to where we started the cruise (full circle). Our addiction to sailing adventures satisfied for another season. It seems like long ago that we were watching the weather trying to start the cruise. Now it’s time to set back and enjoy the coming adventures.

While cruising, our friend and former crew Carl was in the Mulege area free diving for fish the same time as Goto Loco but we failed to meet up..
OUR BIG LOSS.. Read his email
Sorry I missed you. I would have loved to share some of my catch with you. We hunted the area just south of Bahia Concepcion the first day and then a spot just north of Mulege off an island the second day. My friend shot a 70 pound grouper, but I got mostly cabrilla and yellowtail like the little one in this picture. It would have made great sushi on the Gato! Hope we’ll see you in Cholla for the show. Have a great trip til then.
Carl
Until the Next Update
Well, we are anxiously awaiting the start of our Gato Loco adventure on Friday! Seeing all your posts is making me even more excited. Too bad you missed Carl in Mulege…that is SOME fish! Ah, just think of all the sushi that would have made…mmmm…hopefully we will catch some on our leg, though I can’t imagine any quite as large as Carl’s…glad you made it home safe and sound! 🙂
Greetings Lowell, Frankie and Bill! I am writing and reading your log in Manhattan. It is always so good to pix of the beautiful Gato Loco. The pix always bring back such happy memories of sails with you folks.
Thanks for keeping me in the loop!
