Leg 8 – Team Cholla Bay on the final Leg
It was last October when this Baja 08 eight leg cruise “By Land and By Sea” began to take shape. Now the cruise is nearly over… But wait maybe we saved the best for last??? It’s hard to believe we’re now down to the final leg of Baja 08. Making plans we were very careful to plan it around the Zwaney Wedding. Now we have an extra bonus and are very pleased to be get back to Cholla for our friend (& leg 8 crew) Sally celebration of 15 years at Xochitl’s Cafe as well as another event that we will let pass without noting. (Photos from Sally’s Party)![]() ![]() . < Xochitl’s . Sally > . . . . Back in Cholla Frankie, Neely and I rolled into Cholla late Thursday night after spending the morning in San Carlos and then making the 7 hour drive to Cholla. Landing in Cholla was a good cushion for returning from Baja allowing us some decompress time before heading on to the big city (Phx). Our pace has been pretty relaxed and we’ve been out nearly 6 weeks thanks to having Neely with us.
The Cholla house needed some serious clean-up after being gone for 6 weeks, especially since there was high winds (40-50) a few weeks back that brought a lot of sea spray on plants, windows and generally making a mess of things. One day of work and things are in order and time to catch up with friends. . .Xochitl’s party . Xochitl’s party has lots of customers enjoying great food, music and a chance for neighbors to set and enjoy a cool evening in Cholla. There’s a deep sense of appreciation for having Xochitl’s and Sally as an important part of the Cholla community. Wishing you many more…
Sally and Owen and their usual harassment of each other 🙂 >>> . . . . . . The kids all got a chance at the Sally look -a-like Pinata. After some time Sally soon made short order of her so the kids could enjoy the candy.. . Big swings at the Pinata. . . .
Neighborhood friends relaxing at the party. It’s been since the Zwaney wedding that we were able to catch up on news. This is good…hanging at Xochitl’s cafe on the weekend we must be home….
. . . . . _____________________________________________________________ Leg 8 will starts tomorrow (Friday) It’s only appropriate that the final leg is Team Cholla Bay. The Crew – Sally who owns Xochitl’s , Lew is on the HOA & OBSC board doing a lot of work for the community and Suzanne, a friend of Sally’s, that I will be getting to know over the comming week. All crew members live or spend lots of time in Cholla Bay and have never sailed between San Carlos and Penasco. In fact, I don’t think Lew or Suzanne have ever sailed! They’ll be seasoned by the time we reach Penasco. Sally, Suzanne & Lew will be riding the bus from Penasco at 6AM tomorrow. I also get the pleasure to take the 10 hour bus ride from Phoenix at 8AM tomorrow. We hope to meet up in Guaymas late afternoon to do some provisioning shopping and enjoy San Carlos a bit before sailing north late morning on Saturday. The plan is to be in Penasco the following Sat (June 21st). Should be a fairly relaxed leg with general plan to sail to Isla Tiburon, Bay of LA, Willard Bay & Puertecitos with an extra day factored in for weather. We have pretty good internet coverage along the way and should be able to send some updates as we go. Until the next update… The Gato Loco Crew ____________________________________________________________________
