Wednesday June 20th

With 78 miles in front of us and our wives waiting in Penasco we’re up and underway at 5:30. Puerto Lobos afforded another smooth cool overnight anchorage. Our last dinner on board was a comfort meal with smoked ham chops and mash potato’s with some of Jeffrey’s special ingredients (bacon). Dinner conversation was about how this was our last night of the cruise. Doug can’t believe it’s gone by so fast. It’s seems like only yesterday we set sail running from the storm in Puerto Escondido. For me it’s been 6 weeks on board and another fun successful season on the Sea of Cortez.

Motoring out of the Lobos south bay Jeffrey has the fishing line in for one last chance for a fresh fish for lunch. Before long he had a small yellowtail hooked. Too small to keep he returned it to the sea. Passing west of the lighthouse I capture the sun behind the Lobos lighthouse. Goodbye Lobos. We did try to return the 3 fishing reels to Tom who loaned them to us 2 months ago. He’s not in Lobos so we’ll get them back to him in the valley.

The morning starts with us looking for the morning wind that was forecasted. Not enough found to raise the sail so we’re motoring for the first 2 hours. We do our last check-in on the Amigo radio net and bid our radio friends goodbye until next season. 10 AM we had a visit by the Penasco Marine Rescue boat as we weave our way through local boats and their nets. Winds finally arrive from the SW (not the forecasted direction). Mid-day a good broad reach has us motor sailing at 7kts while I take a nap on the front tamp, a perfect way to finish the last day on board.

These guys were great crew members. By the last day we’re a fine tuned team. Thanks to both Jeffrey and Doug for all their help on this leg north. Doug was our first web subscriber to jump on board and I have to say he was a great crew member especially in the windy days where he enjoyed hand steering. He loved it and had a great overall experience. This was Jeffrey’s 6th season and a pleasure and honor to have him on board. Thanks guys.

The shrimper are stacked in the harbor as we motor into our homeport. It feels like home as pangas dart in front of us as we turn the corner north to our slip in Marina Penasco. Look who’s waiting for us. Frankie and Lynnie are on the dock to catch our lines. Love this greeting and of course we have to get a final crew shot with them.Smile

We find 2 of our Rally catamaran boats here. Our New Zealand friends Brian and Sue on Sea Rose are on the end-tie on our dock. They waiting to be hauled out for some repairs at the Cabrales boat yard. Miss Grace we parted way with in Puerto Refugio limped to Penasco sailing overnight last night and was hauled today as they arrived. Very cool, Cabrales had the sling down on the travel lift as they motored into the harbor on one engine and glided right into the sling and lifted out giving Mark a huge sigh of relief. To celebrate we headed to one of our favorite Penasco restaurants “El Capitan” for our final Multihull Rally dinner, a great finish.

Miss Grace, Sea Rose and Gato Loco crews over Penasco

Thursday June 21st

Today we’re putting Gato Loco to bed for the summer and giving Brian and Sue a tour of the Penasco area. They will be here for a couple months while work is done on their boat. We discover it’s Brain’s birthday while we enjoy lunch at Wrecked.

Happy Birthday to Brian on Sea Rose. We certainly hope we meet again.

Summer is here and it’s time to bid the Sea of Cortez goodbye and say hello to the cabin in Prescott. It’s been another awesome adventure on the Sea. I hope to finish a couple photo blogs and videos to wrap up the season over the coming weeks. Thanks to everyone who took the journey with us. We enjoy having you along.

Until the Next Update.

Cheers

Welcome home. I enjoy your trips even vicariously… mostly because I have been on some, so, can picture very well where you are and how it is.

More than awasum, better than expected, very lucky to have experienced it all. So very happy for a great grew. Captain Lowell always concerned for everyone’s safety, top of the mark experience an knowledge,a great leader, good spirit, and shares with everyone a sense of being welcome an acceptance.

Jeffrey, gifted with great story telling ,a real let’s do it guy, humble for his vast knowledge of the sea and the boat,a real hand on the boat, love of fishing, an cooking skills ( I think he could make corn flakes and 1 egg into a gourmet dinner for three) Tide an Weatherman, leaves everyone with the scene of your big brother is watching out for you.

A really big heart filled THANK YOU!
For a great sail, great boat,an a couple of guys that made moment extra special.
