Starting the final leg at the bus station in Guaymas |

As expected the bus ride from Guaymas back to Puerto Penasco was interesting but loooooong. We left the marina at 9:30 AM in the trusty Taxi bus below. Our friendly waiter at the café next to the boat helped us explain to the driver that we wanted a bus directly to Penasco. Off to the stations in Guaymas 15 miles south where he went to 3 companies to find a direct bus for us. Cool, it was 20 dollars and would leave at 11:45 (just a little time to kill).
Lots of deluxe buses pulling in to the station. 11:45 and a old rickety bus pulls in with Penasco posted. When we try to get on the bus the driver looks at our tickets and takes us back to the ticket counter where they refund our money telling us (we think) that our bus is 4 hours late but we can buy a ticket for $5 to ride this old bus to Hermosillo. In Hermosillo we found we had to change bus companies and befriend a very nice family traveling to Penasco who helped us. They spoke no English so we worked on our rusty Spanish. Another 1:45 hour layover and we were on our way in a deluxe bus this time. 10 PM, 7 hours later we arrived in Penasco where our friend Brian was waiting. Dave was planning on driving to Phoenix after we arrived but no chance as it was 10:30 when we got to Cholla. Ellen’s B-day present will have to wait until morning. Interesting prolog to the bus journey, we could have taken a bus direct to Phoenix for $46 and only an 8 hour trip. Future trips to San Carlos will be by car! San Carlos will be our home until late April when we will head back to the Baja Loreto Fest and south to La Paz. Plans are to cruise the great local anchorages near San Carlos before heading to Baja. Thanks for the encouragement to share our adventures. Sending and especially receiving emails during the cruise is fun for us. Continue to contact us at sailors@gatolocosailing.com |

Interesting Sat photo looking south down the Sea of Cortez. Lower arrow is Penasco, middle points to Isla Tiburon and top points to San Carlos area. Doesn’t look far from this view point!! Until the next cruise The Gato Loco Crew |
