Gato Loco Sailing - The San Carlos Cruise.

Mar 1

Winds (14kts) lighten after we crossed the channel and approached Old Kino. We make excellent time arriving 11ish. Anchored near the pier by the port Capitan’s office and went ashore for gas and ice hoping we would not need to do the port Capitan dance. Found the Pemex was 1 kilometer and local Ricardo volunteered to give us a ride in the back of his truck. We quickly found we need to hang on when he put the truck in gear as it lunged forward nearly throwing us out the back.

Winds from the channel finally arrived as we returned to the boat with supplies. We decided to motor north on the 7 mile home front beach that makes up New Kino. Found the Condo/campground we stayed many times with Hobie fleet in the 80s. Looks the same. Wind really up 17kts as we arrived at the north end of New Kino where there is a boat ramp protected by small mountain from the channel north winds.  Anchored here for the afternoon in flat seas and wind blasts coming off the beach. Kino pretty quiet with this wind. Went ashore and ran into Jamie who runs local Rescue 1 Kino boating assistance. She likes everybody to check in/out on channel 11. Hit the mini super, a little shopping at the Seri Indian sidewalk stands and then on to Jorge’s for early dinner.

After dinner we took a sunset cruise back down the beach to Old Kino and tuck SE behind Isla Pelicano for the night. Beautiful sunset. Channel 11 full of sunset chatter.

Heading to Ensenada Posomoreno 56 miles south today. No winds at the moment (11). Where are those winds from yesterday???
