We thought it would be fun to extend our spring Baja cruising opening up opportunities for our friends to join us as we make way through the Baja 08 adventure. Here’s a little more details and a link to travel resources that will help you understand what traveling logistics and cost might be.. Leg 1 April 12th(sat) – 20th(sun) will be from Penasco to San Carlos over a week. We usually get back to Penasco by car and bus. To simplify the trip in the past we arrange for a car to drive us from San Carlos to the Albatross bus station in Hermosillo and then take the bus on to Penasco. The car is about $125 and bus about $50 and takes most of a day. The bus ride to Penasco will probably be on Sunday the 20th to get us back to begin preparing for the Big Cholla wedding on the following Sat the 26th.

Leg 2 April 29th(Tue) – May 4th(Sun) is a dual leg with Frankie and I driving and Gato Loco sailing. Loreto Fest is May 1st – 4th and we will be driving to the festival. Gato Loco will be on a more relaxed pace probably arriving in Puerto Escondido (near Loreto) by the 4th the last day of Loreto Fest. Our drive will begin Thursday morning May 1st driving the 8 hours to Guaymas Sonora where we catch the 8PM Thursday night ferry to Santa Rosalie across the Sea of Cortez. The ferry arrives early Friday morning and we are hoping to sleep in PEE WEE during the night. Ferry rates, $248 cars, $324 PEE WEE size (each way). We should be arriving in Loreto/Puerto Escondido area on the 2nd.

Legs 3 – 6 will be based out of Puerto Escondido or La Paz. Both La Paz and Loreto have international airports with air service from LAX and Hermosillo. Looking at air fares AeroMexico’s prices have gone up considerably ($500 round trip from Phx). CalafiaThere is a small airline Aereo Calafia [3] that flies 13 and 5 seaters for $180 round trip (m, w, f) from Guaymas to Loreto. We haven’t used them.. Through LAX Alaskaair [4] is the best option flying T, Th, F & Su. I checked a Fri – Fri May 2-9 at $429 with taxes and fees included. From Phx, a bus to Guaymas and Aereo Calafia departing 12:20 or 2:45 PM seems like the least expensive. There is a bus exchange/layover in Hermosillo with TBC bus lines. If there is a direct bus Phx to Guaymas things would be faster…

The map to right shows the airfare cost from Guaymas on Aereo Calafia. Fights are very affordable if you’re willing to drive or take the bus to Guaymas. These flights would be adventure in them selves flying lower over the Sea of Cortez. Note they’re priced in pesos so divide by 10.

Leg 7 – May 31 -1, Bill will be sailing back to San Carlos and then doing the drive / Bus back to Penasco.

Leg 8 – June 13 – 22, Bill & Lowell will sail from San Carlos to Penasco. Probably be taking a bus from Penasco to get to San Carlos..
